George R. Adderton to Adeline N. Adderton, 9 December 1863
                                                                                                            December 9, 1863

Dear Wife,
I resume myself this pleasant morning to let you all know how I am well at present. I hope when these few lines come to home they may find you all well at home. I received your letter dated the 4th last evening. I was glad to hear from you all at home. I was sorry to hear that Troy was sick but I hope she will get well again.

We have got the smallpox. I am exposed to them but I am not afraid. The doctor said I would not have the smallpox. I want to know if Josteed is working with you.

We have had a big fight. We wore the Yankee out and drove them back across the river. We got over one hundred wagon and mules and a good many prisoners, a heap of good property.

I want you to write soon. Tell me all the news. I want to know how much corn we made.

We have some cold weather here and not much rain. We have left the Rapidan have fallen back toward Richmond on the count (unable to read)

Tell Joseph and Troy and Stokes and Morthen to write soon to tell me all the news in that country.

            My horse looks very well.

I will come to a close by saying write once a week.

                                                                        G.R. Adderton
