I dont know yet when we will get home we hear rumors that we will be on our way about the first of June but there is nothing certain about it there are a number of the Regt gone home on furlough and in probability will not return rumor says that they are to be mustered out if this is the case I wish I had got a furlough and got free from this servise I dont think it will be long any way so perhaps it is well where I am we all have plenty of rations, three day ago we had some very nice some kraut and a pint of caned tomatoes to two men from the Sanitary and I am getting $ [?] dol a months but I had rather be at home eating of your sanitary and only getting half the money well I am not fretting or worring about at all am enjoying myself quiet well under the circumstances contented any how have had good reading most of the time then read a chap a paslm and two hyms each day I have not been to church the past two weeks at all each Sabbath on duty each evening did not feel well from the cold I have spoken of
 
Lieut Eddy and my captain went home on furlough last week monday you have seen Eddy before this. the overcoat shoes and book I sent from Newberne I I heard had got to Mr Meads No 5 Garden Street but you had not been after them then I wrote you a note at the time
 
nearly all of the 20 Corps has left Raleigh for Greensboro, Hillsboro, Charlotte and Salsbury in the western part of the state. I have not received your weekly visit as yet I had a letter on the day I wrote my last but no paper or letter since we are getting very small mails now. Gen Casement left for home last week rumor says we would have gone home with him were it it not that Col. Hays objected well I dont mind it may all be for the best. three weeks ago I wrote that you had not better write me any more letters I dont know as you had better write any more I will write evry week but I shall miss your letters but may not get ther            From your most affectionate Husband
