I imbrace the present oppotunity of droping you a few lines to let you know my whare a bouts and all so to let you know that I am well hoping thes few lins may find you all well &c I am a gitting ancious to hear from home and to hear wether you got that thing fixt a boute frank staying at home tell fall or not that is the last word I hav heard from home and that has been over a month a go I hav a bad chance to Rite as I draw but little / corn for my mules and hav to cout grass with my pocket knife when I cant git the chance to grase them and the chance is bad wher the is so many teems of diferent parts of the army that you hav to keep your eye on them all the time or run the risk of loosing them and that is the reason why I hav not Riton more than I hav you most all Rite to me as ofton as you can for it is the only sadisfaction we can hav with one another at the present time and that may bee Shorte no one can tell /
I supose you hav heard of the death of our dear belove brother Thomas at potselvania Corte House we hav lost several good men but our loos has been but a small in protion to the yankies loss sens the first days fight Hills Core fought them open handid fight the hav been Repulce in evry charge the hav made yet a ginst our brest works the hav not mad nary charge for the last few days but the pickets keeps up a Regler fire along the lines tho it a mounts to but little as the as the is but sildem any one horte /
I do not know what old grant will do next as he can not slide Round on the Right any more he is bound to come on our fortifycations if he coms any forther I am a gitting a plenty to eate sugar and coffy as mutch as I wont and meate and brade a plenty
this leavs me well hoping it may find you all like wise
