Dear Father & Mother
I take my pencle in hand once more to let you know that I am in the land of liveing yet we started from our Camp the 4 day marched all day the 5 day about 9 oclock we went in to Battle
we had a rough old time of it for I got wounded in my right leg slightly only a flesh wound I was hit inside of my right leg just a bove my knee with a miney ball I we had been in about one hour before I was hit
the battle was near mine run in the Wilderness I am getting a long first rate our loss is very hevy we onley had out of our Co killed 4 that I know of none that you know & about 40 wounded [smudge] Grover was wounded in the arm so I hear but have not seen him yet the mail is soon a going out I cannot stop to write much this time
Henery Howe was killed dead /
I should have writen before this if the mail had been a going out well I will close for this time do not write till you hear from me a gain for we do not know how long we shall stay here we expect to go to Washington soon we gained the victory with hevy losses on booth sides our men ar a pushing on to Richmond this place is ful of wounded men will close for this time for I am in a hury
