Dear Parents
I have just received a letter from you & one from Julia believe me I am well but a bout wore out with the hard times we have been haveing but this war is a bout closed  Genl Lee surrenderd the 10 of April we have had a hard time we have been hard up for rations on a count of giveing / ours to the Rebs we have been marching back to be sent to some place we dont know where to but we hear to night that we this corps is going to washington to stay untill it is settled up our fighting is ended oh hant I glad we marched 12 miles to day the rail road has been repayed up to heer we got here to night this is the first mail we have had since we left Camp & it was a big one your letter was writen the 4th it is late / in the eve about 11 clock we got in here late we drawed rations we have been with out for 2 days you must excuse me for I am tired I have thought of you thinging that you would be weoring a bout me well you may expect to see me before the 4 of July
 
then I will tell you all the perticulars a bout our Campaignn I will write more next time we are all glad boys we have had hard times runing the Rebs down but now we ar done all that / we have just hird that the mail was going out to morrow morning at 5 clock that is the reeson I was writen to you well good night
