Reuben Haworth Jr. to Ann Haworth and Reuben Haworth, 27 July 1863
University Hospt. July 27th 1863
New Orleans, La

Dear Mother Father & all.
I thought I would not wait to get an ans. from the one I sent you, and knowing that you always are pleased to receive letters from me. I have complied with you wishes by writeing to Mrs Rider and probably you will find that out before this letter reaches you. About the shirts I forgot to mention that I have not received them as yet. I am in hope I shall receive them if they are not stollen. tell me how you sent them I got the Jelly in the in the stockings you sent with the boots but have not seen enything of eny since. If this letter reaches you before you send the box put in some lemons if they are not to dear. I got five letters from you one from Father one from Lizzie and one from Miss C. G. who wants me to answer it and I think if eny person writes me a letter I do not see eny harm in answering it. do you. now you see I have not written to eny of the girls since I wrote to J Houghton I will ans. this and she will send me another, and that I shant answer. I see she knows all about the business of the house about sending the letter to Father and how you was glad to receive it. I think there must be someone from the house that goes and tells everything now that ought to be looked into and not have everybody know ones affairs. if they ask about me tell them I am doing well and thats enough. The Dr. examined my wound and says it doing well, and I can see it is for it does not hurt so much to let it hang down as it did. I am lying still in bed but I mean I set up considerable and move around in bed and some times I go out to the window I do not go on cruthes yet but I shall I guess soon. I am on extra diet for breakfast and supper I have toast and bread and butter and a cup of milk. for dinner, I have chicken soup beef tea and another kind of soup and toast or bread and a piece of meat. so you see that we do very well for something to eat but I would like some of your nice jellies to eat on my toast and bread. but I shall be looking by-and-by for the box. you put in the care of Adams Express and I guess it will come safe. there is not much war news but I see by the northern papers that they are having great times about the draft. I hope the old Granite State will not do so. I think I must soon close. give my love to all the neighbors and tell them I am doing well.

I am ever your affect Son
