                                                                                                (undated partial letter)

I cannot help myself now, I suppose I must write to Miss Lane. But I do not know what to write as you can tell her all the news out of Yours. I am glad you did not send those shirts as I do not need them but the Stockings were just what I wanted. You want to know how I am off for shoes and pants such things we can draw from the Quartermaster. I bought me a pair of pants for two and a quarter shoes for two blouse for one and I had a cap given to me. so you see I got them cheap and they were almost new. I do not know as there is much more (to write) that I want but preserves the pants I shall not want yet and if I have them somebody may steal them. the reason you had to pay for my money was that the Express man could not change the bill, then he asked me if I had not better send the whole bill. so I let it go, but I had rather pay myself then there is no bother. somebody got eleven cts out of you more than they charge here. the Messengers and papers were spoiled on acct of the bottle of pickles breaking but nothing else my old Bible I gave to a negro womon. Miss Lanes preserve was very nice and I thank her very much for it. I am glad to see you got another letter from me. and by the paper you sent I should think you ment I should write often, as I shall the convalescent camp is the place where they send men when they are almost fit for duty, and from there to there Regts. on invalid corps furlough or discharge. I do not think I shall do duty very soon as my leg is not fit. I am sorry to think you saw wood and I hope Fred will do all he can to help you. I shall keep up good courage hoping that I may be spared to see you once more and that this may find you all in good health is the hope of your Son,
