Horace J. Wood to Eliza A. Holmes, undated
            Friend Eliza

As you have asked me to write you concerning Asa I will try and do the best I can it is something that I hardly dare attempt for I have never had to go through what you have lately experienced and I hope I may never Asa was with me or rather I was with him until the day before he died. I went to the city in the morning of nov 2d and came back in the afternoon and then it was I heard of his death. I was in the Hopt the day before and see him but he was so lo that I did not say any thing to him. he had talked with me several times about Frank he always seemed to be anxious about him and I always told him he had a mother that would / do all for him I always told him there was no need of his macking himself any trouble. I am very glad that Frank & Julian a gree so well for they can be a great deal of company for each other

As to any request that asa made to me I shal have to say to you that he did not macke any he often talked about all of you while he was with me I done all I could to macke him comfortable if he wanted money I let him have it if he wanted any thing to eat or drink I done the same you want to kno if he left any thing that I could send you I would say he did he left the picture of Marys little boy and I will send it the first opportunity I have of doing so he also left his port folio with me which I will send as soon as I have an opportunity / if George comes back here when he goes home I will send those things by him. accept my best regards and if there is any thing I can do for you please inform me of the same. Now Eliza I dont want you should say any thing to Diana to discourage her from comeing to see me for I want her to come as she will never have a better time to spend the winter in a warm country please help her to come hoping this find you and yours in good health. I remain your friend as ever
