Henry Wetzel to Elmira Jacobs and Anna Jacobs, 17 September 1864
Camp 121st regt Ohio. Vol. Inft.
Near Atlanta. Ga. Sep 17th/64.

                        Ella and Anna;—
This is the first time ever I tried to write to you, and whether I will be able to interest you is hard to say, but hope I will.

First I must tell you that I am well and hope these few lines will find you and all the rest well. I heard that Pap was not well, but was getting better. I hope he is well by this time.

Well, I have two little books I will send to you, and I want you to read them if you can, and if you cant get Mother or Father to do it. I want you to keep them untill I get home and then I will tell you where I got them. I also want you to be good girls, and obey Pa. and Ma. /

I would like to see you and take you on my knees or lap, but I am to far off to come to see you just now. If God spares my life and yours one year more I will see you.

If you can write I want you to write to me, and tell me how many Cows, horses, sheep, dogs and cats you have. I want you to tell me whether Mother and Pa is cross or not. I often think of you away down here in Georgia, and wish that the war would close, so that I could get to see you again. I often look at your pictures, and many of the other boys, and they still say you are such pretty little girls.

I want you to tell me how many Sunday school tickets you have, and who your teacher is. Give me all the news when you write and I will read it cheerfully.

I will now close by wishing you well, and hope you will ever be good girls. Farewell

                                                                                    From your Uncle
(I will send a                                                                                       Henry Wetzel.
kiss for each of you)

Dont forget to write if you can, and if you cant write get Ma. to write.
Good bye. God bless you is the
                                                                        prayer of your Uncle.
