absont son and dater I take this opertunity to let you no that I am well at this time and hope thes few lines will find you the same we have good times hear the weather warm and plesent We have lost our first lutenent he went out side of the picket line to heave a good time drinkin whiskey and kisen rebel wiman and whil he taken this oper tunity he went out six mils to mr martin whyl he and three others that went with him thea were taken to with him I gis thea will heave a time
We were turnd out about seven oclock last evening the Captain rolin got drunk and and loded up a semall gun called blunder bus and went out in the a boat in the stream tor the peckets and fird at some porpesese that were whupin round in the warter then the peckets give the a larm the guns went pop pop all round the hol lines of pickets the compeny were all on line at the fort in ten minets watin fore orders to march and that was all it mounted to this time some of / the compines had to go half amil to get to the fort I was to meten when the alarm was geven a bout half a mil from the fort I went dobel quick and got to the fort gest as the Compeny had fel in to line it was don in fifteen minets I had my things on and in the ranks as col as a cocuembr rit as soon as you gat this rit wher Johney is now tell him to be a good boy your father J S C
