Florilla E. Hayden (maiden name: Miller) was born on February 23, 1814, in Torrington, Connecticut, to Henry Miller and Abigail Bristol. Her father was a farmer. She married Sidney Hayden in Torrington on March 23, 1836, and they had at least five children: Julius, born around 1838; Albert, born around 1844; Charles, born around 1846; Ruth, born around 1848; and Sidney, born around 1857. By 1850, they were living in Athens, Pennsylvania. Sidney worked as a brick maker, and the family owned $10,000 of real estate. Her husband was “seriously and permanently injured” in a railroad accident in 1856. By 1860, Sidney was working as a farmer, and the family owned $4,000 of real estate and $1,000 of personal property. Florilla died in Athens on August 20, 1868.
