Camp Near Savannah G.A.
January 22nd 1865
 
Dear Brother & Sister
                        I once more take the opportunity of writing you a few lines to let you know I am well and hope those few lines may find you enjoying good health Well I have nothing of importance to write to you at the present time We have ben expecting to march for several days But we are still in our Camp and I dont know when we will leave here but I dont think we will stay here long but we may stay a month I understand our Infantry has come back that had started and if they have we may stay here a good while I dont know where we will go to when we leave here but I expect / we will go up in North Carolina some where I have seen over in to South Carolina But I have not ben a cross in the state yet Well Milt I have not got any letters from any of you since the first mail we got after we got here I dont know what is the reason unless you quit writing after you find we are marching So the last letters I got was wrote sometime in November but if you knew when I am marching it need not keep you from writing for the letters would come to me after we would get to where we could get mail and as for me writing to you I cant send mail when we are marching where there is no Mail Rout and I would of wrote oftener while we was here but I have expected / to get a letter every time the mail come in But I was always disappointed and I thought I would write you this one and see whether you had entirely forgot that there was a Marion Pumphrey that claimes to be a relative of yours Well the boys in the company is all well We have had rainy weather for the last two or three days Milt I have writen all I can think of for the present and I will quit for the present
