Dear Wife and Children to keep my hand in I will write again I hant wrote for 2 days we came here yesterday this is the nicest cuntry I have saw yet we are campt in a grove of timber near the city we are to garison Nashville this winter if so our wandering about is done for a while it is time we stop I wrote lots of letters at our other camp and got some and 2 Circleville Papers I like to get letters I can get them direct now so yo nead not be backward in writeing I should like to hear from D. and Phebe and all the rest of the swages /
 
If I could describe this country I would but i cant it makes my spunk rise as we pass along to see the desolation nice residants burnt down and barns this is the works of the rebel Morgan and Bragg thank god they are driven away our camp is on the ground where Brag Morgan was a few days ago they had a skirmish here they left the traces of it one fine grey horse is lying dead here one of their generals and some graves if we stay here this winter we are going to send for a box of things to eat and ware I am about strapt of money we expect to get some pay some time soon / a little money dont go far here I had the diarea and I bought cheese it cured me cheese is only about 75cts a pound every thing in proportion I wanted a pair of gloves they ware $2.50 a cant pay that If I would I have only $1.00 left I paid $1.00 for a penknife that I could got for 50cts at home we get tired of hard crackers and meat and coffee and we will pay any price for cakes and bread when it can be got now we can get any thing to eat we want if we have plenty money if we send for things and I dont get money I wish if yo can send me a pair of boots No 9s kip and light with heavy soles / If I get them here they will cost 12 or 15 Dollars my clothes is nearly worn out we are going to get dress coats I will get a new suit pants hat and dress coat then I will get my picture and send it to yo I am as wel as ever in my life at this time and enjoy myself better than one would suppose considering our hardships one thing bothers me my mustash is getting so long it bothers me to / whistle when I pucker it gets in my mouth howsemever I can get along verry wel I got some warm buiskits this morning I trade coffee to the citizens our mess traded for meal and I made a pot of mush last night and had it fried for breakfast it was bully good any thing is good with us but crackers and if any body has poor teeth he better stay at home I thought of getting some wire and making / a coat of mail of the crackers. Shaw. Rebel bullets would flatten on them I hear we are going to get bread after while I am glad if we stay here this winter I am tired of marching and lying out we have 4 tents but this is not enough yet last night was cold and heavy frost to day it is warm and plesent tel me how the wether is there we hante had any snow but once then in Kentucky / it is warm enough to go with a coat in daytime but the nites is cold if no frost I wil close and hope this may finde yo as wel as i am and willing to write yo wanted to no whither I got your Papers yo sent I got 4 altogether wel I must cook some beans and poark for dinner we cook in turns My mes is composed of H Moderwell A Pounstone W Sours F Kanslider C Morfoot
