Dear family We are now in the land of Dixy about 4 or 5 miles oposite Cincinnate we left Monroville thursday 11 Oclock and arrived at Cincina Friday at 8 in the morning we got breakfast at the market house then went across the river into Kentucky it is all high hills and ravenes the hills are covered for miles with soldiers there is 30 thousand through among the hills here in front of Cincinnatti we are expecting an attact every hour we slept on armes last nite there was 12 cannon posted in front of us / this morning the trees are falling in front of the rifle pitts there is 2 roads comes in here the onely place artilery or cavilery can get in the report that Morgan is marching on us with 40 thousand our pickets are out 12 miles
this is the hardest looking cuntry I ever saw I would not give 3 cents an acre for it I have no more time to write any more I have to place my gard in a few minutes I shal write soon again soon and let yo no more about things here we have no tents yet / I dont think we will stay long here you can write to me any how no more at present only I am well and harty as a buck and ready to fight
