                                                            Dear Sir,
                                                                                    I am able at last to send you the list you desired. The following men and officers of the 14th regt N.H.Vols fell at Winchester, Sept. 19, 1864, and were buried together on the field, on the spot where Col. Alexander Gardiner fell, mortally wounded:—

Seven more died of their wounds in the field hospital of the 2d div., 19th corps, two miles in rear of the battle ground within the three days following the battle & were buried near the hospital, where their headboards may now be found. They are

The remaining wounded were all carried to Winchester, where others died in the 19th Corps Hospital & the Sheridan Genl Hospital, in the course of the next two months—2 were buried in the cemetery in Winchester, with headboards. Some of the bodies of these last were afterwards removed to New Hampshire.
            If I can aid you further in the way of sharing the grateful recollection of the State of those who gave up their lives for the public good on that brilliant but bloody day, I shall be happy to do so. My regiment lost in killed & wounded one third of its all present in that battle—and that was its first battle. Of 21 officers present, 13 were killed or wounded.
