Dear Parents and Brothers and Sister to i have jest this moment got a letter from you and was glad to hear that you was as well as you sead and hope you all will gain fast to for I hato hear of you being sick eney of your famley to But be shure and take good care of the chrilden Mother and dont worey about me for I am as tuff as I ever was in my life and never was so fat before eather my wate is 152½ pounds so you see that i am som fat yet for I never waied so much bfore in my life and i feel first-rate / So dont worey mother abot me atoll for i am as well of hear as i could be at home only you wood feel beter to have me there so you could see me and i should like very well to be there to and when we go into Winter Quarters i shall try and get afurlow for 30 days if no longer and the colon thinks we will gointo Quarters soon so if we do i shall com home if posebel for me to com Be shure and take care of the chrilden and kiss them all for me
 
            I dont think of much mor at presant so i bid you good day from your son John W. Pitrigee to his father and Mother and sister and Brothers to /
 
Be shure and right soon as you get this
 
John Naylor and J McGibbon well as comon Sith Partlow has deserted as shure as hell and Alfred Biggs to has gon But mother if never see home till I desert I never shall see it as shure as hell
 
            Jest give my love to lib and hur hosbon tell them to right to me
 
            Give my love to all of the girls in town
