Frederick W. Hubbell
Frederick W. Hubbell was born around 1842 in Connecticut to Evert and Jane Hubbell. His father was a mason. He grew up and attended school in Oxford, Connecticut, and by 1860, he was working as a farm laborer.

He enlisted in the Union army on August 4, 1862, and he mustered in as a private in Company B of the 20th Connecticut Infantry on September 8, 1862. The regiment took part in the Battle of Chancellorsville, the Battle of Gettysburg, the Atlanta campaign, the March to the Sea, and the Carolinas campaign. He was promoted to corporal on May 25, 1864, but he was reduced to the ranks on December 24, 1864. He mustered out on June 13, 1865.

Hubbell returned to Oxford after the war, and he married Alice E. Gates. They had at least two children: Burton, born around 1867; and Arthur, born around 1869. He worked as a farmer, and by 1870, he owned $1,500 of real estate and $600 of personal property. He applied for a federal pension in 1889 and eventually secured one. He remained in Oxford for the rest of his life, and he died on December 4, 1915.
