Dear companion and children i am well at present except my wound hopeing these lines may reach you in good health i was happy to get your kind letter the other day. the reason that i did not ancer it sooner is because i wanted to find out more about my discharge well i have been examined twise and i think i will succeed to by percevereing the sergeon in charge will examin me next and then i will know whether i will get it or not / if i can get home by the first of April we would have time to moove to Ill in time to put in corn and other things may the lord be our help and support Phy you wanted to know what i thought of going to ill well i think it is the best thing we can do but i want to be at home to help to moove and take the care of it off your mother she has had too much of it to do yes O how can i make up lost time and duty to my family well if i live to get home i can but try thats so 
 
well as to the transfering business i will explain that some times there is orders to send soldiers to Hospitals in there own states and in that case i would be sent to Iowa because i am credited to that state i thought of doing that when i was trying to get a furlo but i want a long and final furlo for i know how hard it is to leave home after being with them a short time i have not had a cent of money for 2 months my pocket book was stole on the boat but there was only 95 cts in it so i have to get paper and / the like from my fellow soldiers i happened to have some tobacco on hand but that is most gone pleas send me some stamps and a dollar in money uncle Sam owes me four hundred and 90 ninty dollars Now Ruth i shall do my best to get a discharge and as soon as i can for i know it is my duty to be with my family
