Sylvia Scoville was born around 1856 in Iowa to John G. Scoville and Ruth Chapman. Her father was a carpenter who owned $400 of real estate and $200 of personal property. The family lived in Brighton, Iowa. She married William M. Kindle in Marion County, Ohio, on August 31, 1879. They had five children, including: Cleon, born around 1880; Earl, born around 1884; Ara, born around 1888; and Ruth, born around 1894. They lived in Goshen, Ohio, and her husband sold musical instruments for a living. They moved to Liberty, Ohio, in the late 1800s, and by 1910, they were living in Lorain, Ohio. She died in Huron, Ohio, on March 22, 1930.
