Dear wife and children i write to you a gain informing you that i am well hopeing these lines will reach you in good health
this is the last letter that i will write from this place as we are about to move the camp out on Black river whare the reg is going to camp for some 2 months it is 18 milds from hear. the teams came in from the reg last night to moove the camp i will write gain after i get out to the reg our capt Minton is wounded verry bad he will not live long o i wish he was well / for if we come under Grimes for capt we will have a poor thing well i hope he will stay ware he is first lieut. well our camp was in a hard fight at Jackson they lost 11 men killed wounded and missing. well they had that fite with out me in the ranks i was doing what i was orderd to do in camp in charge of those that was left and in charge of comp things i expect to continue to superintend the cooking i wrote some thing about going up the river but that order was countermanded well we dont much much like to stay this far south through through August but we will have to take it as it comes
i have no interesting news to write pleas write ofton yes pleas do for i think of home dream of home talk of home sigh for home long to be at home and pray for my life to be sparred and my dear family to be spaired that we may meet again on this side the river. O this life this drearry life is full of troubles yes if we ware to range all ore this green earth for true happyness we would not find it untill we found the savior in him true joys abound, but we all have a life to live a place to fill a never dying sole to save and fit it for the skyes or sink it in endless wo. thank the lord i expect to live with Jesus while endless ages roll / pray for me dear Ruth i feel that i need your prayrs O if i could only talk with you it would be so happy but gods will be done. dinner is over and i will finish my letter to my family that is far far a way whare my thoughts are ever turning whare my loved ones stay tell Lol and John that they may look for a long letter from me and if they dont get it keep looking tell them to write to me
