Dear Ruth and children
i am well hopeing and praying that these lines will reach you in good health
 
i arived hear from ft scuyler Ny the 10th of Apr and wrote to you the 11th as i have not received any word from you i think you have not got the letter therefore i write again i have not much prospect of geting a discharge soon / maby i will get one before long
 
Ruth i am real home sick, the most so that i have been for five years O may god speed the the time when i shall return return to my dear family never to leave them untill death shall seperate us O how cruel and hard harted i have been and neglected a loveing and innocent family may god forgive me and may my family forgive me and may every one forgive me 
 
i think i will get the use of my arm yet it is better and stronger it will not bother me much about farming you may send me if you please 1 dollar to get some washing done they do not furnish us hear with hospital shirts and drawers as they have done at all other Hospitals that i have been at may god protect and keep you from from all harm yours forever
