Dear family i am most excedingly well at present hopeing you the same. I now commence a journal letter well dinner is over we had boiled fresh beef and beens and crackers and soop and lite bread for dinner well if I can find the fifth reg that Sam is in i will try to get transferd to his company. i think Sam would give me some office that will pay better than a private. we talk of leave hear to-morrow morning on a ten days march but we never know whare we are going till we get ther good by for this time 
 
let thes days pass fast away
And bring me home a gain
And then brite as may
With the mai i remain
 
O what hours of grief
I have brot on thee
but ma i give relief
O Ruth remember me

well it is just getting day lite i am sitting in the door of our tent writing on my sacthel it is beautiful warm wether well i must get breakfast our bugle will soon sound for roll call /

well I am tierd Sams camp in the 5 reg was hear last night but i could not get a pass so i did not see him him i wll be apt see him some time this fall O what pleasure it would be to me to be at home to take care of my sweet children.
 
my hedahes a little but i am verry well i am finale respected by the oficers and privets of the company my eyes are to full of tears to write more now.

And must my days be spent ere some noble deeds i do i am tierd i have just put on / about 25 lbs of beef for supper I have no news to write i am well yet.
i lik to be in the army first rate o but i would lik to be at home better well Ruth i dream of you all O may it be the will of him wha created all things to spare all our lives untill we see each other a gain i sent you a book and a paper and sevrall letters Iff you can keep your team you had better keep it give my respects to pap Chapman yours forever
