Dear companion and children i was happy to receive a letter from you yesterday but sorry to hear of your sickness and thankfull to know that you are better i am as well as usual except my shoulder it is no better than it was when i left Beaufort i do not think that i ever will have the use of it much better than i have at present i am trying to get a discharge but i cant tell yet whether i will get it or not if i do not get a discharge i will get transfered and then get a furlo i think the war will be over befor long and then we can all go home there is a bout 5 hundred at this Hospital we have good treatment but it is not home no no O i want to be at home with my family to spend the remainder of my life with them in respectable imployment and trying to make them comfortable and happy
i have not written as ofton as i would have done if my shoulder and arm had been well it bothers me to write and pans me to have it in a position to write therefore pleas excuse me if you write to lols and John soon write some for me
Phy i a much pleased to hear that you are going to school i see you are improveing in writeing verry fast learn all you can and you will never be sorry. i must stop and rest my arm
Feb 25th good morning dear family are you all well this morning i am well now Ruth you must not work so much no there is no need of it use that money i do not want you to ruin your health by [torn] work to save a little money i am tiered of being a way from home and friends yes i am and as soon as i can get a discharge i will be at home to stay if my life is spared and it is gods will O may your lives and health be [torn] you that we may meet to part no more untill death seperates us
When i look back and reflect over the many hare bredth escapes and scenes of danger that i have pased through and am yet alive i wonder how it was that i ware not a mong the slain on some distent battle field but god in his mersy has spaired me for some purpos and i feel bound to spend the remainder of my life in the servis of the lord and prepairing for that delightful home in heaven pleas pray for me that i may persevere and continue to live a cristian life pleas write to me as soon as you get this and tell me all about every thing and some more Prinny are you going to school this winter Sibby and tuly you little dears i want see you verry much well i must close for this time may god protect you all
