Dear companion and children i am well i was on camp gard on post at that near Col Millers tents when i received yours of the 22 can you immagin the sole chearing and hart felt comfort that i have injoyed since then. the fact is i have been too happy to answer the dear, kind, affectionate, letter untill now. it god be praised for the saveing of my dear children. that was Saturday tis now Monday 4 oclock tis raining some yesterday Sunday was as happy to me as any sabath as i have spent dureing my past 3 years / yes, i now am a happy man how thankful we aut to be for the goodness and mercies of the lord of heaven. yes he has preserved our dear offspring eaven from there earlyest period of there dear existance yes and our lives mite have been taken long since and left them wander in an orphans path through this world of this of god frozen sinful reched world but i has been our lots to yet be spaired yes our duty to our children is not yet done, no, no, and all that we can do in a rite way yes in a just way is none to much then there love and affection for us will be stronger eaven down to old age yes
well i am detailed to go to division headquarters this morning at 7 oclock. i supose i will be a carpenter of the pionear corps that is being reorganizsed at the afore said place being one mild from hear well i think it will be better for me to go there than to go to the 46th Ohio infantry there will be lots of Ohio men in that corps so i will have company and good at that and duty light and good times and have furloes the same or better so i will not tease nor pester Col Miller no more at present. i will see that all is rite
March 1st Scottsborrough 5 in morning. well dear familly i am well how are this beautiful / moonlight morning the good lord knowes, yes and doith all things well. it has been raining so much since i reported to our vetran carpenter corps that we have not done any work as yet our firs work after breakfast is to irrect a large shed at one end of the pasenger building to secure rations from the rain. we will not remain hear long colonel Miller 6th Iowa and colonel Wolcot 46th Ohio and the commander of the 40 Ill have had orders to be ready to moove at any time maby it is north west that we are to go. well i hope so it would be a good time for us us to go home to see our friends thats so
