Dearest and best, i will write a few lines more i am well O that i knew that you ware the same. i send 5 dollars in another letter i dont like to risk much unless i express it i have some money and i expect you must nead it but i mite get a furlo then i would nead some of it. i will express some clothing to you you can make some of them over for Phylander if not i can ware some of them if i get home and i think in all probibity i will. yes it would be to hard after being so long from all that / most love on earth yes and then after indureing the hardships of war and being deprived of society and friends and then not have the privileg of coming to his dear family but i still hope and pray that god in his mercy will spair me to return to my native land and to my dear wife and children yes i commit my self to his keeping my life is in his hands. to god we owe our devotion (aut not we to spend our life in his servis) then how beautifuly and pleasently our days will fleet along through lifes rugged tide and then the beauty of it is when called from earth away we shal have / a peaceful hour in which to dy and then the soul takes its upward flite to spend eternal years with angels singing sweet songs of praise…O what happy thoughts yes when life and its troubles are ore we will sigh and sorrow no more. o i could write page after page on this subject but i must write a few words to the children. Philander Princis Silva and little Ruth O i have not got Lols name hear well i will write to her in another letter. well children i want you to mind your mother and be kind to each other and god will protect you yes be good and kind to all / now Ruth tell me all about how you are liveing and how your afaires are you may think that i mite have come home be fore now but i have tried to get a furlo for a long long time but our reg has not furlowed any except some of the sick therefore this reg will be discharged 4 month sooner on that account and be paid for our full time
 
dinner is over and i will finish this letter maby i will be detailed to go up the river with the hospittal they want me to go as a nerce well i dont know as yet whether i will go or not, yours J G S
