good morning dear companion how is your health i am well thank god i did not mind the chills when i was sick but the fever o the fever i was flitey and would have drank all the watter that i could get hold of but the kind ordley would take it from me i have quit cooking except a little side cooking for my self when i have something extra to fix up. we now and then go out in the country and get peaches and sweet potatoes and fat shoats we have sent our collered servent today a lad of 14 years half white we got him in Tenn on a plantation he is faithful boy / the first 3 of our comp started home too or three days since there furlows are 30 days from Vicksburg. maby they can go home in 10 have 10 to spend at home and return in 10, so if i get one it will be about the 8 of Sept i come in on the second squad, but woudent it be funny if the war would come to a close about that time god speed the happy day when peace gain shall be injoyed through our once happy country O how many glad hearts how many mothers will imbrace ther dear and brave sons of freedom and how many wives will meet there husbands. but alass / a large number are a sleep in death to awake in eternity. the health of the reg is good considering this warm climate at this season of the year it is extreamly hot but we have got parcialy climated and can bear it. recruits from the north soon play out did you get 2 letters with $5 dollars in one and 2 in the other i did not like to risk more that way. do you nead money if i was at home i could be so happy but i will try to be happy whare ever i am yes i find tis my duty and privileg to spend the remainder of my life in gods servis. kiss the children
