Dear wife and Children
I received a letter from you last night I am verry well hopeing these lines will find the same we left St Louis some three weeks a go we stopt at Jefferson citty two weeks whare we got our arms and uniform we we got 2 pr drawers two shirts two pr pants one blue coat one over coat one hat one cap two pr shoes a pr socks 2 blankets we have no fight yet we are now on the march after general price / we expect to chace him to kancas there is no boddy in Mo now but soldiers mules and nigers and a few rebbls we will be apt to stay at this camp two or three days we drawed some pay last week I will send you ten dollars in this letter I know you nead it O Ruth if i could be with you how happy i would be but alas we are far a part but through the mercy of god we may meet a gain I have sent no money yet until be cause we did not get any untill a few days ago the men that died was Jim Michel, Wm love, and Harvy Owens. 
 
well Ruth I will return as soon as i can may god protect you all I know you have a hard lot yes to hard O how I have miss used my dear Ruth O may i be for given I took you from your farthers roof and I cannot write any more on that subject it pains my heart to think of past days well I live a cristian life O the hope when days and years are ore we all will meet in heaven I sent several letters to you I am sorry that you did not get them for they was good long letters
