Dearest of earthly friends i take pen in hand to inform you that i am in tolerable health
now my dear Ruth i must write something as i feeal in order to free my troubld heart all though trouble seams to be rather a unnecessary diseas of the human family but it is so arandged that we are subject to more or less afflictions while this life lasts hear on gods green earth—O that i was up home in my dear old native state whare thing would look natural and whare scenes of of youth would do my heart soul and body so much good—
well i have not much news to write so i will put it down in short meter the morning birds are singing and my tent mates are sleeping little John Green our coloured tent boy has arison to take the fresh morning air it will soon be day the bugal will sound its familiar notes then the fifes and drums will rattle over the same 3 or 4 familiar revelee tunes then we will be in ranks with catrage box and shining rifle answer to our names then get / our breakfast then i will be apt to do as i pleas the remainder of the day except one thing—(go home)
well tis 10 oclock the gards are forming beside our tent. it will be a hot day and therefore i will do some sewing. (well i had to stop writing to devide the molases) we do not hear much war news, but we expect to to make a move in Oct for texas. we will moove this week 12 to 15 milds to Gen Shermans head quarters Gen S comands the 15th army corps Col Cource commanding 4th brigade and some other Gen commanding the 4th division well i suppose from what i can learn that the furlo business has played out in this reg i had it strat from (Brigadier J M Cource)
i think we will be mounted on good horses 50 or 60 picked men have had ther horses for some time and have had one skirmish and oure men took 2 prisioners and seven horses and acouterments. well if i donot get to visit you this fall i trust i will get the happy privaleg about the 17 of July next it will be a pleasant meeting, yes for fond hearts and hands to greet each other in unison if we survive wars desolation

wel it is eavening and the roll is called O joy and thanks to you for writing as good a letter as i received this eavening those beautiful lines of poetry—how true & how sublime and thanks to the allmity ruler of earth and heaven for the presivation of your precious life and our dear child how i am blesst. yes we have been blest with life health hope and happyness
Sept 3rd thursday Morning 4 oclock—
