Dear Wife and dear children i was happy to receive a letter from you yesterday and verry thankful to know that my dear little family was well I am well except blisterd feet caused by marching in just retwined to our old camp yesterday from a hard scout of 10 days. We had 5 reg of infantry some cavelery and 2 baterys of artilery we heard that there was some 2 or 3 thousand rebbels camped on the Tallehache river in Miss we thought we would have a fite with them but they skedadled when we got within 2 days march of them but we had 3 or 4 skirmishes with small bands killed 5 or 6 and took 28 prisoners then we took a circel around back and on our march toward home we captered a hundred horses and maby 4 or 5 teams and lots of smoked hams and after that we will have traveled about 2 hundred milds we will reach Lagrange tomorrow we will be on provo gard in town so we will have better and [faded]
O my dear Ruth i wish i was at home and [faded] mite go to doug Joneses or to Bar[faded] this and that i cant eaven get a furlo after being a faithful soldier allmost 2 years. but i must be resind to gods will and not mine and i have hopes of yet meeting my sweet little family again to spend happy days with them O continue to pray with me for my sake [remainder faded] /
cant write half that I would like to say this time for i must get ready for inspection we would have drawn our 4 months pay before now if we had not gone out on that scout but we will get it soon and as there is no chance for me to get a furlo i will express it to my dear Ruth. may god bless and protect you all give my respects to lol and John and all the rest
