Memphis Tenn..Aug 23..62,
Dear and ever respected companion and beloved children,…i take pen in hand informing you that i am well at this time praying these lines will find you injoying the same of gods choises blessings i write every few days and receive no letters but maby i will get some after a while. i must have patience to indure not all things but to indure the privations of a soldiers life
The Discharge of that War [?]
It is not death to die
To leave this weary road
And midst the brotherhood on high
To be at home with god
It is not death to close
The eye long dimed by tears
And wake in glorious repose
To spend eternal years
It is not death to bear
The rench that sets us free
From dungeon chain to breath the air
Of boundless liberty
It is not death to fling
Aside this sinful dust
And rise on strong exulting wing
To live among the just
Jesus thou prince of life
Thy chosen can not die
Like thee they conquer in the strife
To reign with thee on high
those lines are in my Soldiers song book i think they are prety, what do you think or what do you think when you think nothing John. G. Scoville
