Dear Ruth and children i am well except my eyes hopeing these lines may reach you in good health my eyes are geting a little better but it is slow i am using your remedy now but i only commenced it today and can not tell yet whether it will help them or not Now Ruth i am tiered of writeing one thing over and over so i wont finish this letter for 2 or 3 days and maby i will have some thing better to write yes and maby my eyes will be so i can see better
Saturday June 10th
good morning dear family i will write a little more today and and some tomorrow for i cant write much at time my eyes are about the same i think the salt and watter helps them some i will give it a good trial any way i cant see much better but they are not painful at all today you think it is strange that so many are being discharged and not me the reason is this the vetran regments are being held untill they get regulars enoughf to garrison sertin forts while and other regts that are not vetrans are being musterd out and those that are / vetrans that are at hospitals are not being discharged yet but i think there will be an order soon to discharge us to
well i cant see to write more now so i must stop and finish another time

good morning dear family i am well my eyes are better your medicen has help me more than all the Doctors stuf O i wish i knew that you ware all well. i think it has been good for me to be aflicted yes for while i was allmost blind and every thing shut out from vew then i could set and reflect and think over the many mercyes shone to me and see how much i have to / thank god for and see my true condition and even my past life as it realy has been so my afflictions have been a blessing pray for me that i may be a better christian and safely return to my dear family and be a blessing to them. i just herd while i am writeing that an order has come for all vetrans that are not able for the field to be discharged but there is so many falce reports that i dont know yet whether it is true but it is sertain that they will not keep us long my papers have been made out for some time but old Taylor wont send them away to be sined Phi write oftener in mothers letters and Prinny you must write, J.G.S.
