Dear family i will try to anser you kind letter that i received yesterday the 2 last letters that i have had contained 50 cts each for which i am verry thankful i am not well but i hope hope these lines may find you all well i am nearly blind with sore eyes yes they keep me in a dark room with 6 others that are in the same fix i was cupt on the temples yesterday and will be again to day and i am using lots of medicin but they continue to get wors i have to stop writeing and / wipe the hot watter from them every line i write some nights i dont sleep one minet they are verry painful but i must bare it with pacients tis rite that i should be afflicted thus for some sin or other or to humbull me. well his will be done and all is rite. if my eyes had not been sore i would have gone to Davenport yesterday to get my discharge but the doctor sayes i will get my papers hear soon if my eyes get well enough for me to travial but dont look for me till you see me comeing i dont think you can read this verry well for i cant more than half see and / my head akes so i cant write half as much as i would like to my regt is at Washington or on there way from there home they turned there guns over last week well ide smile to see them hold me hear after my regt is musterd out they cant do it but i would like to be discharged with the regt on acount of my share of the regamental fund that will be divided with those that are discharged with the regt but i shant wait for it wont be much pleas write ofton i will fetch those shells some of them are verry prety i remain your ever affectionate

i will come strate home and not go by the way of lols nor stop to play on the way, no not much dear family if my life is spaired and my health sufficiently restored i will come home as soon as posible. more when i can see better it took me a long time to read your letter yesterday but i can see some better today O i wish i was at home if i was i think that i could soon cure my eyes but i must not murmur nor complain, god doeth all things well and may he save us from that burning hell
