            Dear Wife and children after this long delay i rite to which was caused by our march through Miss whare there was no chance to send letters away, i write a few lines informing you that i am well and cincearly hope these lines will find you in good health i was happy to receive a letter from you a short time since i was so thankful to know that you was all well. there is no chance for me to get a furlo or discharge O how i long to be at home. well my time is half out they cant hold me but 18 months more at most but i think the war will end before that time we had some recruits the other day from Clark Co 14 in number you knew some of them i will name some of them Jef Rooly fred Johnson Harland Stuart
 
                        O dearest companion have patience, we must keep our trust in the lord and all may be well yet
 
            Jan 28 well i will write a few lines more i am cooking now and have to write a little at a time i am well i weigh 178 lbs we will be apt to stay hear some 6 weeks we drawed 2 months pay a few days since i will send $10 dollars in this letter when you get this letter write and let me know whether you got the money or not. there is 4 months more due that we will be apt to get in 3 or 4 weeks when i get that i will express it if we are where there is any chance O my dear Ruth my trust is in the lord it is the grace of god that keeps my sole from [torn and discolored] / me in heaven whare there is no parting whare joys are celestial and divine there is no sorrow there, but i trust it will be the will of god for us to meet on earth again and i will be so happy then i think of home dream of home allmost every nite O that i was there now O may it be the will of god that i may speadely return to love ones at home.              to Laura now lol you said i did not write to you well maby i did not so i will not forget you this time. lol you and John are intirly mistaken when you think that i am not suted with your marriage if you are suited i am sure i am O may the blessings of god attend you both through life, and after death reward you in heaven. i will write more another time. O Ruth kiss those sweet little children for me [faded and torn]
