Well it is Sunday a gain the happiest and best day in the week for me i am midling well and cincearly pray these lines will reach you all well it is cold here in our tent i am writing some is reading some is picking over beans some sleeping some talking &c we formed a pledge last week old Doctor Gray a firs rate ord physitian and a good christian tents with us he got up the pledge on the stringth of a letter that i received from SSS the pledge prohibets swaring card playing drink and all becom

O Ruth the comfort of my heart i wish i was with you and the dear children to talk with you but i am not my soul is happy in the lord O the brite prospects of the better land in view is plain and most beautiful to behold ther all my troubles will be ore yes my race will soon / be run. Laura i want you write to me yes write to your farther that is in the army, tell me all about the little children. Phi Prinny Silvey and little Ruth the dear little creature if i had her in my arms one hour what happness it would aford to me Ruth you wrote that you lived near Days on the waples place but i do not reclect just whare it is. it must be near Scott town which side of the crick is it that old (tymacty) or in inglish all round the plains. Philander you must be a good boy yes you will you black eyed red cheaked little obedient son. well i must go and help grind our ax and my log knife i will write more again

Jan 19..62 well Ruth i have just been to town on detail to unload cargo. well it was hard work but it did not last long. it is Sunday 12 oclock our cook is geting dinner Sergeant / Grey is reading a long newspaper story John Toben is sewing Esq Garner is writeing E Ford is writeing so i aut half write. our morrel pledge dose well we have colected 60 or 70 cts of fines, mostly vulger words 5 cts each we soon will have money enough to by our note books the regamental Chaplain will visit our tent this afternoon at 3 oclock to read pray exort preach sing with us we have a bible class formed our testaments come handy
 
Corporel Piers one of our mess mates has been a Sunday School Superintendant he is teacher of our class may god bless our cause yes may god bless all the soldiers of the union both sole and boddy

Ruth write soon, write the sentiments of thy heart yes thy truthful pure heart i long to be at home if any i have on earth—if i have none on earth i expect to have one in heaven whare pleace forever reigns yes there my earthly troubles will ceace there my soul will find rest, and all earthly cenes of comfort and happyness will come to a close and the immortal sole will enter in to partake of its angelick sweetness and healing repose to sing sweet anthems of prais through long eternity O may i meet my Mothers there and farthers to and my dear Ruth the chosen of my heart and Children dear, yes to me as and you as life and breath O may i see you once more to take you by the hand of affection see those beautiful eyes beam with brightness and love your affectionate husband
