Dear and forever loved companion i will write to day and say i am well yes i think so but i do not feel happy nor do i expect to for some time well we had a storm last nite it blowd and rained some yes some we are on the open prarie near the river in the edge of town. the wind scattered the tents and guns bords and blankets and men ware scattered and mixt up together and wet as rats the men of our tent kept it up by holding it up and geting wet as drip well i will not write much news to day / war news you must hear them more than we for we are kept cloce under strick orders. well we will try to stand it and try to be good soldiers that is some of us will and others O the degradeing and sin that soldiers are guilty of let that subject go and see what grows in the garden O yes i want to know if you have any new potatos and rostingears we had some the 18 of June have you any flour beds or rose bushes about the house O for a site of some of the inhabitance of Larue one Ruth and some children of mine
Well the old river that is clos by our camp it looks beautiful O that its watters could bear me up to cairo and then up the Ohio and then the cars to Larue and then to ruths house by land but i am hear in the old tent far far down in
tennisee
to 2 little girls is in the tent door with butter milk and pies to sell i drank a glas of the milk the first that i have drank for 3 months it was good yes it was

our summer is passing well the time will come when i can be looked upon as a a what a reasonable sort of a man not a idiot let the past be forgot forgive me pleas do pray for me that i may prove true hearted to god and man (and kind to Ruth and children) yes kind as a husband farther and friend we ware united for life by the will of god and man then let us live to gether as we did in gone gone by days of happyness
