Dear wife and Children i have but a few minutes to write so you must excuse my briefness i am verry well it is just one month since we left Memphis we have come some 4 hundred milds our road has been hilly and rocky we have jay halked and cooked at night and then marched hard all day untill we are as tiered as men can get handdy there has been a hard battle fought near Chatanooga about 4 days since grant / drove the rebs 6 milds back from those mountains where old rosy could not moove them we may stop hear 3 or 4 days then croud on to the scene of action our 2 divisions will help make them get, yes thats so there is 15 regs in a division beside the artilery and caveldry so you can see our reinforcement is no small squad. O my dear Ruth how i long to see you and the children pray for me dearest and write ofton more nextime J G S
