Dear and affectionate companion and Children i write to you informing you that i am well at present my health is extreamly good hopeing and praying that these lines will find you the same i put a ten dollar bill in a letter yesterday and put it in the office maybe you will get it and maby not. well send me word whether you get it or not and if you get it i will sen more for i know you will need some help O if i could be there to take care of you how glad i would be may god protect you. we are about 2 hundred milds from St Louis we are in the middle of the State we fare pretty well so far we seam like a band of brothers verry much atacht to each other with som exceptions we ar now capt in a beautiful place we have been hear three days we may stay hear some tim and we may leave / tomorrow. i think we will follow the rebbels to to texas be fore we can get a fite out of them they will not fite if they can help it so they wont
 
Ruth send me wor all about how you are getting along does ohio seam like home to you is the children well is Ruth well is farther well is there plenty of frute there O try and be as resind to our lot as you can pray for me and your self teach the children the rode to heaven o may we all meet in heaven whare peace forever raigns whare all our trouble will be ore whare the parrance greets his child whare fond heart meet near to sever whare eternal joy forever reigns whare all our tears will be wipt a way whare the angels will sing sweet songs of prase while endless ages roll O what a happy thought O may it be our happy lot that we may meet in heaven at last and be forever blest.

O my dear Ruth i may never see you on earth again but if not i expect to meet you in a better world than this kiss Lol, Phi, Prinny, Silvy, and little tote, for me how i would like to be there with you and see the old place whare we spent happy days to gether O may we be permitted to live to gether again in peace harmony and love
 
well I am booss cook for the company i have an asistant i expect to get the be one of the Sargant before long. then i will get 17 dollars pr month in place of 13. well i could write a greateal but i must close and go and commence supper our company is small to what it was when we started from Oceola ther is but 53 in it now some has dide some has got sick and been dis charged and went home
