Dear companion and dear children i write to you again i write ofton it is 8 oclock a cloudy morning RLPPSR O it is with much pleasure that i write to loved ones at home home oh what is home and what makes a home pleasent and happy i am not well the doct said villians was geting a hold of me but i am able to walk around yet now Ruth if i write hit or mis dont think me rash or say that i am too sinful and cruel hear ore this world a stranger i roam in persute of happyness yet heaven [stained] now Laura if you are marryed when your mother gets this tell her to let you see this letter and read it then you will not [stained] me so much maby you may think that i should not write as i mite have written but i am a singular person as you know and if i have sayed rong things pleas forgive me yes forgive a [stained] that has come to the war to help defend the country in which his dear wife and children live o that the fighting was over and i could return from the field to spend a few years in peace o you little think of how it is in reality [faded]

pleas sing some for me i am still trying to live a cristian O the cristians home in glory well expect to meet my friends there yes upon the other side the river whare the tree of life is blooming whare peace, joy, happyness forever scatters nite a way o prepare to meet me there whare parting and tears of [?] never comes
what is a cristians duty
 
what is a soldier [faded] /
 
Now i will send some more clothing if i find that has gone through maby i will send some things besides soldiers atire if i send money use it when you (knead need nead well some way is rite) it jus do not keep it and suffer for the want of something. Oh you know best what to do (Mother knows best well, she does)
 
O i wish i was on the Scioto river at L Larue i think i could find Ruths house will the smoak be coiling from the chimney or will she be standing in the door
