Scottsborough Ala Feb 25..64

I am well this morning and would be much happyer if i knew that you ware all well i have just hung out my washing my drawers and shirt look nice and white but my towel and socks dont look white. well they are clean enough for a soldier. O how ancious i have wached for a letter from home ever since you wrote that Sibby and little Ruth had the small pox O may there lives be spaired and there health restored. i expect you must need money more especily on acount of your sickness. well it is so unsafe to send by letter there is no express office hear. well try to get along, and i will bring some with me when i come home i think / i think i never saw before the weather as beautiful as it is hear now O tis so warm, bright, soft and all together lovely spring has come with its brite charms

O if i ware at home how much comfort i could take now dear Ruth when i get all done soldiering if our lives are spaired i think yes i know i will have enoughf of being from home dont you think so dear (yes) well i mean when i get my discharge from the servis i calculate to spend the remainder of my life with my family and fix up a little home pretily and pleasent and try to make my family happy and comfortable then our declineing years may pass pleasently and sweetly away O may gods blessing be with with you and protect you
