well i must write some more Vixburg serenderd the 4 of July they delivered up there intire force and that was 35 thousand and 5 hundred men and all there guns and amunition and all there other stores. well so much for that. well a few days since gen Sherman slipt around in the rear of Johnsons army and took 15 hundred prisioners and 100 waggons and all there provisions. well so much for that. our division is in the vicinity of Jackson Miss the rebs in this regeon are on there last legs bully for that. well i must close but i could write sheat after sheat but i will write ofton may the blessings of god be with you all

O yes hear is the other side. well dear Ruth try to keep up good spirits i will surely come home if my life is spaired yes my dear wife and i believe it will be gods will that we will meet again on earth and i hope and pray that we may meet for each others good and be a blessing for each other O if i can only be with you and talk with you it would do me so much good but we must be resined to gods will he doeth all things well. now dear children live in hopes your farther will be with you before long be good children and be kind to mother for she has been so kind to you in your infancy yes be kind to all you chance to meet
