Dear and much loved wife and children
i am well this beautiful morning hopeing you all the same i am happy and much pleased to to receive this letter of the 24 it came to hand this morning. it gave me much pleasure to know that you ware all well. well i sent $25 to you by express i paid 150 cts to express it and took a receipt it was direct to Mrs Ruth Scoville cochranton Po Marion Co Ohio i went this morning to the express officer the man that expresst it look at his book and said it had gone through if you do not get it i can make him pay it back to me i pre payed it here so you would not have to pay any thing when you get it. as you did not mention it in your letter of (the 20 and 21 22) i thought i would you wanted to know when i inlisted. well i inlisted at Oceola July 5..61 was sworn in to Us States service at Burlington July 17..61. yyou left that sand sandy prarie whare we parted in tears July 31..61 well i have just eat dinner so i will write some more i write to you ofton thats so /
 
we have inspection muster this afternoon we have this same kind of a inspection every two months always before receive our pay (we will get state pay from the 5th of July untill the 17th of same month)
 
            Ruth you you nead not of kept the team on my acout acount  i mearly mentioned it be cause i thought that Phi liked plough you know the team is ures do with it as you pleas. it gives me pain to hear that you are sewing for feed for them if you want to live in Larue you know it is in old yes dear old Montgomery well i will buy a nice little house and lot there if you think best to keep back in and then you can come to see me and live with me if you want and if you are a good girl, well i must joke a little some times if i am a cristian soldier. wall i love to live in town far better than i did when i lived in Iowa i would love to live in Larue thre is the old river the mill the church the beautiful timber the nice old inhabitance several of which i was acquainted /
 
well i would like to help to rear thos sweet little offspring of ours in Larue or some other good religios town but i some how have an atachment to Montgomery it is my old stomping ground all most my land of nativity O those pleasent wood land scenes, brooks, birds and flours O how i long to behold them again yes those happy heart delighting sole refreshing boddy strengthening breases of old Montgomery Marion Co well maby it will be gods will to spair my life to injoy those pleasent sceans again may god speed the time, may crist Jesus bless all our soles with heavenly crace and gooness to fit our soles to injoy lifes uneaven storms and trials they are to work out a far more exceeding and eternal wate of glory but you know that a good cristian is fit to injoy earthly blessings yes fitted to injoy comforts of by the grace of god well religion is a good thing any way that you take it it fits the sole for sweet eternity      JGScoville to

Write to me do you get plenty of papers to read if not i will send you some we get the St Louis democrat every eavening i will send some of them any how and then you can read all the war news for your selves it does one more good to have the supprise of news rite from the paper yes i will send you papers to read then at your leasure moments O Ruth do not work so hard now pleas dont dearest i know you have a harde time but god bless your dear sole i hope i can relieve you that you may rest O may god forgive me for permiting you to ware your self a way O the vast amount of sin that i have comitted by letting by leting my dear bosom companion ware her sweet life and noble mind away, but with what graceful and beautiful pacienc she has born her troubles, her concience is clear she has done a wifes and mothers part yes she will receive her reward in heaven whar all her trials will be ore
