William Reid
William Reid was born around 1837, probably in Scotland. By the early 1860s, he was living in New York. He received a commission as a 2nd lieutenant in Company F of the 57th New York Infantry, and he mustered in on August 12, 1861. The regiment took part in the Battle of Seven Pines, the Seven Days’ Battles, and the Battle of Antietam. He eventually earned a promotion to 1st lieutenant, and he resigned on November 6, 1862. He rejoined the regiment a year later, mustering in as a captain. Union officials transferred him to the 61st New York Infantry in December 1864, and he mustered out on July 14, 1865. He died sometime after the war.
