Charles J. Arms to Abby J. Arms, 11 April 1855
Westport April 11th

Dear Mother
I have at last arrived here. When we got into New Haven it rained very hard, therefore we could not go out at all. I have been here one day. I have been to Norwalk and Westport. I like Gus very much (yea, and all the family also) I have not been homesick at all, and do not mean to either. I was very sorry I could not see Father to bid him good bye, please say it for me to him now. I have seen Frank Jessup Jr. I do not like him much. I saw Miss Leavenworth she said she knew you, and that you was a very dear friend of yours, no I have / got it wrong—you was a very dear friend of hers. She was very glad to see me and asked me to come down and see her school. Cousin Julia is very well, and all the little cousins are the same. Hattie is a little darling. Julia is very pleasant Cousin Julia said she had expected us for 3 or four days. We found "Paul" waiting for us. But I must close or the mail will close before I get through. Please answer and let me have a good long letter and oblige your aff Son
Chas
