Charles J. Arms to Hiram P. Arms, 6 October 1859
Yale—Just after Greek—Thursday morn.

Dear Father—
I have just made my best rush in Greek to Prof Hadley who is my division officer. After the division was dismissed I walked up to his cage and asked him if I could be excused &c—after asking if I was a son of Dr. Arms, and brother of Arms of '53, and remarking that he never thought of it before, he—said Prof Hadley—the renouned, the traditional the modern [?], with one of his ghostliest, ghastliest, and most grimaced smiles, informed me that I could go—and must make up my back lessons, five in number. If I came Monday night I should lose three lessons, rather than one as mother wrote. I think it will pay—I hear the books of the scholars at the F. Academy have been somewhat mixed up. I must enquire into it when I come home—So you may expect me at about 10 o'cl'k Sat. evening—

Your most obedient son—
Charles J. Arms
