Charles J. Arms to Hiram P. Arms, 8 February 1860
New Haven Feb 8th 1860.

Dear Father,
It is some time since I received your letter, but I have been waiting till Mr Jillson got back, so that I might acknowledge the receipt of the bundle. He has got back, but says he had not time to go up town. I am sorry, for I want the things very much. Perhaps you will find some other way of sending it. The self-boarders are well & hearty. Our price of board is $2.10 per week, & will be less when we get well going. / Of course I am out of money. But Ware's bankers sent him more money than he wants & he can supply me till vacation. I should like to know when William sails. He said he would write, but he has not. I suppose I shall take up some paper soon & find that he has gone. I got singularly acquainted last night with the family of Rev. Mr. Aitchison's wife. Tutor Wilcox asked me the other day if I would like to take a tract district. I told him I would & last night he took me to see the lady who was my predecessor, and she is Miss Andrew. She has heard you preach in Fitchville. It was very pleasant & I shall call again. /

Danl Coit has been here attending the course of Agricultural lectures. He went home yesterday. At a second Society meeting at Dr. Duttons church, the vote on the Dr's leaving stood 25 for—87 against. The movement was chiefly on the part of some of the southern merchants, who were a little frightened on the Slavery Question, Union Meetings &c. I guess there will be no more trouble. I received a paper from Kate the other day. What earthly use there is in sending them I can't see—except to show that she remembers me. But I must go to prayers. Please write soon & tell me about Wm. With love to all—I am your aff son Charles J Arms.
