Charles J. Arms to Hiram P. Arms, 26 May 1862
New Haven May 26th 1862.

Dear Father—
I have just a moment before the train leaves to write you a line. Frank will give you the news around here, and my howabouts—I have enjoyed his visit very much, and he seems to have had a good time. He has been very careful not to interrupt any of my college duties. In regard to that horse, I plead guilty to having taken him, but not guilty to the charge which Sallie gently whispered of an attempt / at deceit. When I started from home I had not the remotest idea of riding and only thought of it when I got to Mill Lane. I rode, and when I came back I went to take beans with Uncle Ferdie, and I think did not come home that night. It never came to my mind again till I received your letter. I am very sorry that you were so amazed and displeased and I will be more thoughtful next time. I have no other restitution to make now, in my power. I will answer Sallie at length very soon.

Frank will bring my love to all the family from

Your aff son
Chas
