Charles J. Arms to Hiram P. Arms, 21 July 1862
Monday Aft. July 21st 1862.

Dear Father:
I write you by this morning's mail, but have since tho't of a plan which I think will suit all hands. Mrs Oaks has just told me that they expect the old lady the last of this week or the first of next. Now I find it necessary to be here Commencement Day, (a week from Thursday), on my way to Brunswick Me. (Bowdoin College), a delegate of and at the expense of the Psi Upsilon Society. There is to be a Convention / of all chapters there, and I am to represent Yale. I must come home & get ready to go, and will accompany Mrs. Oaks as early next week as she may choose to come. From all appearances she is not likely to be able to travel this week. If this plan will work please let me know. As I shall have to come this way, I thought it would be as well to save the expense of one, unless you desire to be here at Commencement. I am more & more convinced that you can make no arrrangement with the Faculty immediately. In great haste,

            Affectionately
                                    Chas
