Charles J. Arms to Hiram P. Arms, 21 December 1862
Baltimore Dec. 21st 1862

Dear Father,
I have not the honor of acknowledging the receipt of any letter from you within the past three weeks. I should like to hear from home very much, and have no doubt you have written. I have left word and sent to everywhere where letters would be likely to be sent, to have them forwarded, but none have yet arrived. It is Sunday afternoon. I went to church this morning. Though it may have been impudent, I couldn't / resist the temptation of going inside of a church for the first time in four months. So I am not to be home during the holidays as I expected. I am pretty homesick at times, but I am so much better off than I should be lying on the ground down in Va that I try and comfort myself with the idea. I have learned since coming here, that I was in a good deal more danger over in Loudon Valley than I had any idea of. There was one time when the Drs. were considerably frightened about me. However thanks to a kind Providence, the danger is past now, and with / prudence I may get my strength very soon.

The family where I board are very kind to me, and everything is comfortable. It reminds me of Mrs. Mackie's very much.

You must be very careful in directing to me, not to put any Reg. or anything of that sort of thing on, but simply my name and title and Baltimore. You will use your own judgment about sending the money—whether by Express or mail—I think I should get it by mail. Give much love to Mother, Sallie, Theo. and with the same for yourself believe me

Y'r aff. son
Charlie—
