Charles J. Arms to Hiram P. Arms, 14 January 1863
Chas
Baltimore, Jan 14 1863.

Dear Father—
All Right! and the old adage, "Nothing venture nothing have", has again been verified, there being no mid-day train from N. York, Bassett and I took the 7.30 P.M. train and arrived here this morn at 4 o'clock. Our Doctor has just called to see Lieut Foley, who is unable to report at his office, and he told me that as it was not very pleasant, I better not report at all this week. He has been up here once or twice during our absence, but has not mentioned our names Another week added to our / furlough would not have been noticed. It was well, however to be on the safe side, and I think we may consider the trip a billiant success. On my return I found a package of letters forwarded by Col. Ross—thoughtful soul! Among them are the following—Yours of the 6th 12th 13th ult. Mother's of the 13th, Sallies of 5th Jan. & Lucy's of the 22nd ult.—All a little stale, but acceptable. Nothing from the box. Perhaps it is with the Reg. Am feeling first rate, excepting a little drowsiness.

Love to all from
Y'r aff son
Charlie—
