Charles J. Arms to Hiram P. Arms, 22 January 1863
Baltimore Jan. 22nd

Dear Father—
Yours of the 19th is at hand. I reply thus quickly to say that I forwarded you $100. by Adams Express the day after I got back. You do not acknowledge the receipt of it. I hope it has not been lost. I would also say that I leave to day for Fairfax Station. The Dr. did not seem inclined to offer to send me back so I applied for an order to join my Reg. and got it. I hope it will not appear that I have gone back too / soon. Although it is reported to be very cold at Fairfax, yet when I heard of the intended movement in Siegel's Div. (they are under marching orders now) I made up my mind to find Co. H, and fight with them in the event of a battle. I leave this afternoon, and if I have good luck, and the regiment has not moved, I shall be home (my home probably for a good while as you say) to-night. Please let me hear from you soon, as I am anxious about the money. I shall be most happy to read—if I do not always answer—any amount / of questions from Mother and Sallie. There are two or three vacancies on Genl. Schenk's staff. With proper wire-pulling I could fill one of them. If I were going to stay longer, should try it. I was only spoken to about it yesterday, so it is too late.

With much love
Yr's affly
Charlie
